Have you ever seen 30 tons of food? Weed will soon enough - Dave From Bicoastal Rogue Valley radio stations: From concept to completion, the Bicoastal Rogue Valley radio stations (106.7/1440 KMED, 107-5 KISS-FM, KOOL 103, Q100.3, and Rock 106-3 KZZE) orchestrate a massive one-day “FEED WEED” event. Medford, OR – September 19, 2014. It began with an idea at 2:30 Wednesday afternoon, by Thursday morning at 6:00, it was a reality as KISS-FM, KOOL 103, Q100.3, KZZE, and KMED began a 13 hour broadcast to help fill a WCP Solutions truck with non-perishable food to aide the several hundred residents of Weed, CA turned homeless after a mysterious fire ravaged half of the town Monday afternoon. One by one, Rogue Valley residents and businesses arrived at Sherm’s Food-4-Less and answered the pleas with bags, boxes, and even palettes of groceries, pet food, baby items, and toiletries. Food-4-Less employees and volunteers joined radio station staff to separate the donations for easier transport. By 2:30PM Thursday, what was only an idea 24 hours earlier, resulted in a full truck with nearly 20,000 pounds of non-perishable food and bottled water. Pat Dunlevy, division manager of WCP Solutions, summoned a second truck, which was filled by 6:00PM, leaving several palettes of goods to fill a third truck, which was donated by Sherm’s Food-4-Less and Thunderbird Markets. In addition to the donated items, Bicoastal listeners also responded with cash. Nearly $7,500 was collected to purchase additional food and cleaning supplies to help those affected by the Boles Fire, which at the time had consumed 480 acres and destroyed over 150 homes and local businesses. “The response of the Rogue Valley community has been overwhelming; both Sherm’s Food-4-Less and WCP Solutions made themselves instantly available to help us”, noted Bicoastal Rogue Valley market manager Bill Ashenden. “I am very proud of our staff at Q100.3, KMED, KOOL, KZZE and KISS-FM , who not only broadcasted for 13 hours, but also rolled up their sleeves for 15 hours to package the 60,000 lbs. of donated non-perishables into the trucks.” Ashenden concluded with the biggest kudos to the listeners who answered the call to action. “We are grateful for our generous community who made Feed Weed a huge success!”. “FEED WEED” donations are being convoyed into the fire-ravaged community on Saturday, September 20th by the trucks from Sherm’s and WCP Solutions and will be given to the Rotary Club of Weed, which is in charge of local relief efforts.
