Have you ever seen something so beautiful that it inspired you to create something to reflect and honor that beauty? For many, the redwood forests are an artistic muse spurring paintings, photography and poetry. (For example, some of the great haikus you all shared here on this page.) For others, the muse is musical. Last February several of us became acquainted with a talented young musician and University of Toronto student, Josh Cohen, when he applied for a special use permit. As part of his graduate work, Josh shot solo bass videos in several national parks, including Redwood National and State Parks. We helped him obtain the necessary permit and worked with him to ensure that the recording was made in such a manner as to cause the least to disturbance to wildlife and other visitors. Here is the resulting video of Josh playing Bach’s Prelude in C Major.
