Have you ever viewed RFD-TV? I would have responded a resounding, No, before this morning .... :-D! FFA(Future Farmers of America) Today is a such an interesting and educational show and they call the TV the boob tube! The TV is a tool just as anything else. Todays program involves their National Convention which actually has international chapters. I saw representation from the African country of Ghana! How fascinating! The next show on RFD-TV was, South Carolinas Farm Bureau Voices of Agriculture,. The Federal Immigration laws were discussed; hand harvested produce (H2-A) program requirements. Foreign farm workers and the current Federal(national) Immigration Reform Bill and its importance was explained. Family farms such as Titan, Belue Farms and Parsons Nursery of Upstate (Piedmont/Blue Ridge Mtns area of) SC( Palmetto state) were profiled. Those farms once mainly employed seasonal migrant workers from Mexico and other Central American countries. Hope theres a better understanding of the operations and the challenges they face. Farm Bureau continues to work hard to seek some type of national immigration reform thats meaningful to provide farmers laborers year round on their farms. Its been proven that AMERICAN CITIZENS DONT WANT TO WORK AGRICULTURAL JOBS. Reggie Hall, of SC Farm Bureau. Chalmers Carr, spokes person for Titan Farms, Your fruit is going to be harvested one way or the other by a foreign national , so the you the decision to be made; do you want it harvested here with all our food safety regulars and the FDA governing how we grow our crops verses having that foreign national harvest them in another country where you dont have the same food safety protocols? Thats not rhetorical, that is critical. Whew! Something for us to contemplate this morning ....
