Have you ever wondered what you can do to help a family affected - TopicsExpress

Have you ever wondered what you can do to help a family affected by disability feel welcomed and loved? Friendship & love are all you need! See this story from a local mom: Yesterday at the local concert in the park we had an experience that just seems to define life as a special needs family. When we first arrived several boys of varying ages were playing with a tennis ball near us. My heart sank when I noticed Carsten watching intently and looking eager to join in, but it was simply not natural to include him with his physical limitations. Later, we pulled out the bubble gun that allows him to blow the bubbles himself. This attracted several kids, but one little boy was especially friendly. When I let him have a turn, he intentionally blew the bubbles toward Carsten and waited for his reaction. He found other toys wed brought and without hesitation or need for explanation played with Carsten on his level. My sons laughter at this little boy was the sweetest sound to my mommy heart. After the boy declared that he was 4, he asked Carstens age and paused at the answer. Only then did he even seem to realize Carstens disability, yet it made no difference in the way he interacted with him. Carsten never needed to be the same as those boys playing ball, he just needed 1 person to completely accept him as he is. (Sadly a sudden downpour, stopped me from telling his mom how grateful I was for her sweet child.)
