Have you ever wondered why Enugu State is regarded as a golden nugget, the pearl of the South East? Or asked yourself why prominent personalities in Igboland and beyond have one or two private residences constructed in the Coal City? Its because Enugu State is unique in so many ways. Our people are accommodating and congenitally friendly. The relative peace and tranquility enjoyed by the residents of the City in an otherwise turbulent Nation is second to none. Indeed, you cannot fully appreciate the aesthetic outlook of The Coal City and its lovely ambience until you visit other States of The Federation. Recently, Enugu made history as the only Nigerian City selected among the 100 resilient Cities in the whole world! Resilience, in this regard, is the capacity of individuals, communities, institutions, businesses, and systems within a City to survive, adapt, and grow no matter what kinds of chronic stresses and acute shocks they experience. Four African countries have been selected to join 100 Resilient Cities - cities who have demonstrated a commitment to building their own capacities to navigate the shocks and stresses of an increasingly complex 21st Century. Accra (Ghana), Enugu (Nigeria), Kigali (Rwanda) and Arusha (Tanzania) were selected with 31 others globally to benefit from the support of 100 Resilient Cities (100RC) – Pioneered by the Rockefeller Foundation, as they work towards becoming more resilient to the physical, social and economic challenges faced by cities globally . This remarkable feat was not achieved over night. It was through the efforts of our founding fathers. For this development and advancement to continue, we must ensure, through our votes, that a competent hand is elected to saddle the ship of the State. It thrills my heart that I am part of this movement for the continuation of good governance in the State. Let our voices be heard both individually and collectively.
