Have you ever worked for the same place for 50 years? Well, on October 1st, the young lady pictured here did exactly that. Sherry Bosar celebrated her 50th anniversary on Wednesday. She started here on October 1st, 1964. On 7/7/77 she was promoted to Executive Secretary to the Chief of Police, a position she has held ever since. During that time she has worked for 7 different Chiefs of Police and 2 Interim Chiefs. See the attached photo for a proclamation from Mayor Schmitt recognizing her accomplishments. While thinking about Sherry’s 50 years and wanting to put that into perspective, it occurred to us that a lot of things have changed here in that time. With the Vikings Game last night, it occurred to us that she started here when the Packers were really good (the first time around). She was actually here 2 years prior to them winning Super Bowl I. Her employment actually predates the current police department. The “new” building we currently occupy was constructed in 1969 to replace the converted grocery store that was our old headquarters building. To merely celebrate her 50 years of service is to do Sherry a disservice because is greatly understates all of her contributions to our agency over the years. Instead we celebrate all of her accomplishments and contributions. She has become an institution here, because of her dedication, pleasant disposition, sunny outlook, class, and unfailingly positive attitude. Now, you may be thinking this is the kind of tribute that one would give to someone who is retiring. In this case, however, this is most certainly NOT a retirement notice. In fact, it is a standing joke around the department that Sherry is not allowed to retire. There is a kernel of truth within the joke, because we all look forward to her being here as long as she is willing to stay. Congratulations on 50 years Sherry!
