Have you heard the announcement that 10 detention centres are being closed, including Darwin Airport Lodge and NIDC here in Darwin? We welcome the closing of any detention centre, but we do not welcome the knowledge that instead we will be sending people who have come here asking for our protection to the internationally condemned detention camps on Nauru and Manus Island The government claims it is saving money by closing these detention centres down. If they really want to save money, they SHOULD STOP LOCKING PEOPLE UP - the commission of audit found that it is 45 times more expensive to harm & detain refugees on Manus & Nauru than to allow them to live in the community.
