Have you made your list and checked it twice? I know we’re zeroing in on the 25th but its October not December and the list I’m referring to is your Fall Gardening Check list. Below is a list that may cover many of the chores required on your yard. We’ll go over the list on this weeks Garden Journal to help get you ready for the winter and our phone lines will be open for all your question concerning your yard or garden. All annuals removed Spring bulbs planted Leaves collected and mulched, composted or removed Perennials cut back (optional) Final watering of trees and shrubs (should not replace proper watering of plants throughout the season) Soil amended with compost, organic matter Pruning of appropriate shrubs and trees Here is what you still may be waiting to do: Final mowing of the lawn – cut short Set up of stakes for burlap curtains for sensitive or at risk evergreens. Do this before the ground freezes, burlap to be applied later. Final turning of soil (insect and slug control) Mulching for winter protection of tender perennials, roses and shrubs one of the last jobs using flax straw. Apply the burlap to complete your screening of plants
