Have you seen one of these before? I caught this little one at a Eumundi home after the owners heard their dog going off at something. Its a beautiful bandy bandy snake (wonder how it got its name). Common throughout most of Queensland this virtually harmless species will throw its body into loops like this one to make itself look bigger when it feels threatened. They are often seen crossing roads at night in mostly rural areas on the Coast in search of blind snakes which is almost solely what they feed on. They are mildly venomous but bites are rare as they are very disinclined to bite. Reaction to a bite is generally localised swelling and pain for up to around 48 hours but I dont know anyone personally who has been bitten. So if you see one around your yard give it some space but admire it and enjoy the moment instead of fearing it. What an awesome looking snake. Love these guys. If you need a snake ID or relocation you can call or text me. Richie. 0409536000.
