Have you seen the Run Thru History Mural at Grove and Levee - TopicsExpress

Have you seen the Run Thru History Mural at Grove and Levee streets, down by the Depot? I’m embarrassed to say that I just noticed it for the first time a couple of days ago. Luckily, I had my camera with me and captured several pictures. I did a little research and discovered that the mural was painted in the Fall of 2010, which is why I’m embarrassed that I haven’t noticed it before now! Painted by former Dafford muralists Benny Graeff and Herb Roe, the 55-foot mural was painted on a concrete wall which follows the steep incline of Grove Street. It depicts a group of runners participating in the annual “Run Thru History” event which is held in the Vicksburg National Military Park, and several state memorials are shown in the background. It was difficult to photograph the mural in its entirety because of its triangular shape and the huge utility pole standing front and center! Utility poles and lines, trash cans left on the street, and overgrown shrubbery are a constant source of irritation to photographers. Utility pole and all, I do hope you will drive by and see the mural for yourself, if you haven’t already seen it. It is very well done, and is a colorful addition to the waterfront area.
