Have you wondered what actually happens at The Dream Center? Here are three recent examples of how we work. 1) A man who has been homeless for a long time walked in and was tired of being tired. He had struggled with finding work but without a valid ID, social security card or birth certificate, he was very stuck. After a volunteer met with him, heard his story, and prayed with him, he was given a list of shelters to call (out of county because Pickens County has none). All of the shelters were full, so the volunteer started the process of applying for a copy of his birth certificate and allowed him to do some cleaning in order to earn Dream Dollars toward covering the cost of the birth certificate. He remained homeless for the next two weeks but came in daily to call shelters, receive prayer, and to earn his Dream Dollars for items he needed most. Finally, his hard work paid off and a bed opened at a shelter in Greenville. Our volunteer was able to arrange for transportation. Not only did he have shelter, he was accepted into the residential program with a new attitude of hope for his future. 2) A woman who has been homeless and living in the woods called and was desperate for help. A volunteer provided her a ride to The Dream Center, heard her story, prayed with her, made her a sandwich, and she immediately went into the free classes and Bible Study we had going on and earned Dream Dollars for some food and clothing. She slept in a bed for the first time in six months this week and things are looking up. She is job searching, attending our free classes, and focusing on improving her life. 3) A woman who was in desperate need of a job came in and a volunteer listened to her story, prayed with her, sent her into the free class we had going on to earn Dream Dollars. After the class, a volunteer helped her with a few online job applications and she got a job on the spot! She had to leave immediately to pick up her work uniform and was so excited, she almost forgot to get her Dream Dollars! These are 3 examples of many that walk through the doors of The Dream Center. We encourage people, love them, pray with them and give them a practical hand up toward a better life. We are the church in action.
