Have you wondered whatever happened to the mound builders in Spiro, OK and other river towns in the SE? From what I have read they were agriculturists who moved in and pushed hyper religion and trade with the paleoconservative tribes in the interior. (The Enduring Vision vol. I, pp 11-13) Yes, they passed out some seeds and other enticing goodies, along with the demands of fundamentalism and demands for work. For a bit it looked like progress. But the tribes had this all take place so quickly that they could compare the new with the old and just collectively walk away. They weren’t like us—frogs being boiled so slowly as to not notice the heat until it is too late. What if a lot of people just walked away from Franklin Graham, Walmart, and McDonalds?
