Havent been able to reach Grammy on the phone all day. Knowing there are many hungry beaks to feed, and knowing that a surprise blizzard is no reason to keep an 87-year old with a metal plate in her neck from climbing down the steps and climbing UP to fill the bird feeders because godknows she does NOT need anyones permission or help to take care of herself and her creatures thankyooverymuch, I find it prudent to zip on over and see whats up. A quick scan of the back yard and I see half-filled bird feeders, a good sign - but more importantly my flashlight does not reveal any 104# frozen lumps in the yard. Lights on in the house, Weather Channel blaring, skittish formerly-feral cat scrambles away from me as I open the door. Oah high deeuh! Wudduhyuh need? she chirps from her usual spot on the couch, covered with hundreds of pieces of junk mail. Just maykin shooah yuh knot dedd. Wut? Yuh cahnt ansuh th foan? I say. She waves me off. Eye cahnt find th damm thing since lahst night. Which makes sense. Because I eventually discover it in the freezer. I remind her that the birds will be fine until tomorrow afternoon when I will come with extra-special yummy treats for them so there is no need for her to fill the feeders even though we ALL know she can do it with NO HELP AT ALL. Right?
