Havent dived too much into the Adrian Peterson debacle. Dont really intend to. I will say this though: Justifying Petersons disciplining of his kid on the grounds that similar or worse happened to you doesnt suffice. Imagine if we applied the same well, it happened to me, so... logic to other areas of life. Imagine if your kids teacher hit your kid with a yard stick to discipline him/her and used that same back-in-my-day justification? Its not that day anymore. It never will be. I got old-fashioned whoopings as a kid (belt, switch or, stension cord, whichever was closest). And I got them all the time because I was hard headed lol. But there are lots of things from my childhood that I dont intend on being true when I raise kids. Thats one of them. I think folks feel like coming down on physically disciplining your kids or calling what Peterson did abuse is somehow an indictment on their parents and/or their parenting. As Cris Carter passionately points out, his mother did the best she knew how. And so did my folks. And Im forever thankful for them and the job they did. And Im still going to do it a little differently because I think kids can be disciplined (adj.) and disciplined (v.) without violence. And thats ok. ftw.usatoday/2014/09/cris-carter-espn-adrian-peterson-vikings
