Havent had a rant in awhile (deep breath) so here goes: first I have 2 confessions, the first being that watched Wendy Williams show on BET, and the second being I watched it so I wouldnt miss Hustle and Flow that came on right after. Ok I feel much better. Anyways there was topic of discussion that caught my attention. It was about a big female executive at Facebook coming up with a campaign to ban the word bossy. Because she remembers how that made her feel when she was younger and she believes women would be more successful and assertive if they didnt have to worry about such a negative tag. In the words of the judge on divorce court, thats the dumbest thing the Ive ever heard. She was apart of the discussion and her point, which I agree with, was if the most damaging thing that was ever said to you was that you were bossy then youre bored and have nothing better to do. But it gets worse, all these big name celebrities have signed on and its a full blown case of widespread STUPID. Case in point Beyoncé who is active in feeding the world through one box of hamburger helper at time and I consider King of the Stupids is riding shotgun on this one. The same woman who has made a fortune on the premise of taking whats yours and not asking permission for nothing is now in a sense asking the world to play nice with girls. Ive never taken it easy on any woman in my life only because thats not how the world operates. Its a mans world like it or not. To hell with that its a shark tank where average men dont make it. So a woman has to work twice as hard to function in it (three times harder if shes a minority) so giving women a free pass and a false sense of respect is a handicap. Im all for erasing unfair obstacles and stigmas which shackle individuals from reaching their full potential. I believe that an even playing is essential for a cohesive society so in that respect programs like affirmative action have run their course and only serve as points of contention. So what Im saying is promoting social affirmative action is just as ass backwards. If the ideal, because that what the word bossy represents, prevents a woman from getting or job or promotion in the work place then I absolutely agree that it should be banned. But considering words like angry, militant, difficult have prevented plenty of black men from opportunities and none of those have been banned then what I would suggest is Ms. Facebook and Revolution sit down, or better yet go in the kitchen and fix me a sandwich (A big one). I was joking about the sandwich thing, but the rest of that long winded stuff I meant...THIS IS ALL!!!! Nickisha Lewis
