Havent updated about Ted because I did not know what to say. Admitted to hospital this time on July 11. Came to beautuful Room 7 on 8C on Friday after almost two weeks in SICU. He underwent extensive nearly 13 hour surgery to remove cancer, entire stomach, over 40 percent of esophagus, and surgeon recreated a new esophagus from his intestine on July 14 and 15. Has had four other procedures since then, including a 4 hour surgery to attempt to repair a leak, (not successful) and add a new Jtube below the leak for his new food source (successful). In the meantime, we developed several new issues including a severe case of SICU (or isolation) psychosis. Today, he is jaundiced and has liver issues. CAT scan on Monday. Good news - His body is cancer free, he is alive, gaining ground, great room, superb staff and medical team. Many of you have asked what you can do - Surgeons have said he needs social interaction to reorient, so if you are local and have a few minutes, drop in and say hello. Mail is good, too. If all stays on track, we have about another month to six weeks in the hospital. We could not have made it thus far without family and friends and we are forever in the debt of those who help. I never leave except when absolutely necessary and I, too, have wonderful accommadations. He has no stomach, and has not eaten or had liquid by mouth in over two weeks, so please do not talk food. Our lives have changed, but we are grateful to be living them. The Anchor is still secure. Dont be messing with an old Texas lawman - they are tough! Ask any doctor or nurse on the team.
