Havent we been here before? Its Iraq (and Syria, too), the president is forming what is increasingly being termed a coalition of the willing (and semi-willing), an air campaign is expanding (most recently, into Anbar Province in Iraq), a president is going to address us Wednesday on his plan to destroy ISIS, and now the talk is of years of further war -- at least 36 months to be exact and into the next administration, according to the Pentagon. No American boots on the ground, of course (except the ones that are and might be there). And then there are all the figures who were wrong every other time something like this happened that we like to call neocons and who are calling for more. Given past history, what could possibly go wrong? Heres New Yorker satirist Andy Borowitzs reaction to recent events. Tom Senator John McCain (R-Ariz.) blasted President Obama on Saturday for failing to bomb Stonehenge while in the United Kingdom for the NATO summit. “This is a time when it’s important to send our enemies the message that the United States is strong, McCain told Fox News. I can think of no better way to do that than by blowing Stonehenge off the map. McCain said that he was astounded by Obama’s reluctance to order airstrikes on the ancient monument. He had a clean shot at Stonehenge, and he blinked, he said. newyorker/humor/borowitz-report/mccain-rips-obamas-failure-bomb-stonehenge Heres the NYTimes on the Pentagons timeline on this: nytimes/2014/09/08/world/middleeast/destroying-isis-may-take-3-years-white-house-says.html
