Having a chit chat with Andy about one of his patients who happens to be in intensive care (its a complicated case) & I was asking what nutritional support they are providing since she is not able to eat --Andy says that every time he orders the higher quality intravenous nutrition the hospital doesnt like it (bc it costs more $$) and yet there are studies in mainstream medical journals showing patients get off the ventilator faster & recover quicker when tube feedings include the higher quality nutrition with the highly anti-inflammatory omega-3 fats (from EPA & DHA) rather than the standard pro-inflammatory omega-6 fats provided (typically in the form of corn oil) ---problem hospitals like to be penny wise, pound foolish :( If you ever have a loved one in the hospital, it is super important to be on top of their nutrition! ---ivy (andy too!)
