Having a home cooked meal is wonderful. I havent had one - TopicsExpress

Having a home cooked meal is wonderful. I havent had one proper, outside of my own home ever. Mostly because Im not really good at cooking or dish preparation, and also because my kitchens pretty bad. You can actually see a freaking ladder next to the stove lol. That said, having dishes made for me is a feel of home I havent had for a long time since my family has been unwell. More than once Ive been told NOT to come home because theyre not doing well and since I dont come back often they want the whole thing to be pleasant. That said, its funny how nostalgia kicks you in the face suddenly after 20 years. A lot of people dont know me, but pork pongteh is a dish I havent eaten for 20 years. I had a peranakan aunt(bless her soul) and every chinese new year Id go over to the (cousins) grandmas house (bless hers too) and be fed pork and chicken pongteh. Its funny, in the nyonya community this is like a signature dish - yet I have never had it outside. With the passing of my aunt and her mother, I thought Id never have the opportunity to enjoy this dish ever again. So Im very, very happy that someone actually came over and cooked for me, and on top of that its a dish that Ive not had in like 20 years. Each bite had a warmth to it that I have not felt for too long. Thinking about how I might not be able to go home this Diwali actually makes it seem even more wonderful that someone did this for me and makes me well up a little. Lastly, Im exceptionally thankful that someone said it and did it - happily. I have met a rabble of people who have said theyd cook for me but didnt. I think its known that I really, really hate liars. It comes as no wonder that I no longer talk to some people.
