Having a life long interest in art was a good thing when , in the fall of 2000 I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis and had to give up my previous carreer . I now live on a small pension in my hometown of North Bay Ontario Canada . I turned to painting as a tool to keep my hands and fine motor skills working and me occupied with something positive . I believe this saved my life in many ways and am a huge advocate of art therapy . While searching for a way to help out in my own community after losing a close relative to cancer , I decided to donate a painting to the Cancer Societies Relay for Life in 2010 . This got me to thinking about how I could continue to donate and use this to inspire other people to think creatively about how they themselves could donate there natural talents. I came up with the Create to Donate project . A personal commitment to donate at least 100 of my original paintings to various local charities in hopes of inspiring others to think outside the box and utilize their own natural talents to benefit their own local communities . If I was to donate the base cost of what it costs to produce a painting - ( the few dollars for the canvas and paint ) it would be a very small donation . But by creating the painting and donating that instead - by applying my natural talents - I am able to donate something that will raise far more . To date I am just over half way to my commitment of 100 original paintings . If we were to apply these natural talents that we all have in the benefit of our community , we wouldnt need to wish for a better place to live - for we will already have it . This is what I hope to achieve with the Create to Donate project .
