Having a nice quiet night at home tonight. Today, music superstar Elvis Presley would have celebrated his 80th birthday. Elvis Presley passed away on August 16, 1977 at the young age of 42 from cardiac arrhythmia. One of his most famous songs, Love Me Tender: Love me tender, Love me sweet, Never let me go. You have made my life complete, And I love you so. Love me tender, Love me true, All my dreams fulfil. For my darlin I love you, And I always will. Love me tender, Love me long, Take me to your heart. For its there that I belong, And well never part. Love me tender, Love me true, All my dreams fulfil. For my darlin I love you, And I always will. Love me tender, Love me dear, Tell me you are mine. Ill be yours through all the years, Till the end of time. Love me tender, Love me true, All my dreams fulfil. For my darlin I love you, And I always will. Now in sports news tonight. Chicago Bears have hired Ryan Pace as their new general manager. The following information is from an article from CSN Chicago: The Bears made the decision Thursday to hire Ryan Pace as the man to replace Phil Emery as general manager. And Pro Football Talks Mike Florio gave his thoughts on the hiring, as well as where the Bears may look to fill their head coaching vacancy now that the GM job is filled: On the hiring of Ryan Pace: This one is being received very favorably. Ryan Pace, a guy whos been with the Saints a long time, a key part of their success, they didnt want to see him go. Hes had opportunities to leave, he was waiting for the right chance, his name had come up with other jobs, he saw this as a great opportunity, the people of the Saints organization love him. Theyre going to have a hard time replacing him, and in the short-term its a win for the Bears. Now, hes got to go build a football team and show what he can do. On where the head coaching search now stands: Now that we know who the GM is, now that we know it Ryan Pace, its going to be his decision. Nobody knows who hes going to want to hire as a head coach. You go through the interview process, you keep an open mind. The key is going to be, if the organization is going to keep Jay Cutler you want a coach who wants Jay Cutler. Now maybe theyre still going to try to trade Jay Cutler. When they benched him with a couple of games left in the season we thought, Well, this means theyre going to trade Jay Cutler. And then he played in Week 17, so we still dont know what they want to do with Jay Cutler. What they want to do with Jay Cutler is going to be a key piece to who they hire as their head coach. On if the front office wants to keep Cutler: At this point no one knows theyre going to do. If Mike Shannahan would end up being hired as head coach I think the message would be loud and clear: Jay Cutler is still going to be the quarterback. If its anybody else we just have to wait and see. Remember, six years ago when Josh McDaniels became the coach in Denver we assumed he wanted Jay Cutler, and the first order of business was to get rid of Jay Cutler. The United States Olympic Committee has named Boston as its representative for the 2024 Olympic bid. The following information is from an article from Yahoo Sports: The United States Olympic Committee has named Boston as the United States bid city for the 2024 Olympic Games. Boston has never hosted an Olympic Games. The city will require construction of an Olympic stadium, and projected costs run to more than $7 billion, according to the AP. Los Angeles, San Francisco, Boston, and Washington D.C. had all been seeking the opportunity to represent the United States in bidding for the 2024 Games. The International Olympic Committee is expected to name the host city in 2017. The United States has not hosted a Summer Games since Atlanta in 1996. Los Angeles based its bid on a series of clusters scattered around Southern California. San Francisco sought to make use of iconic backdrops such as the Golden Gate Bridge and the Coit Tower. Boston intended to use university facilities for a compact Olympic experience. Washingtons odds for hosting seemed dubious at best because of the citys polarizing nature. While hosting the Olympics has long been deemed an honor, in more recent years local governments have understood that its been the IOC doing the deeming and the citizenry doing the paying. Costs for hosting Olympic Games have soared past $50 billion, and while most governments will not go to the ridiculously lavish (and, by all accounts, corrupt) extremes of Russia with Sochi, the price of entry now is a substantial one for a two-week event. In fact, the prestige of hosting an Olympic Games is so dimmed that four cities have already dropped out of the bidding for the 2022 Winter Games, leaving only Kazakhstan and China as the bidding nations. Many nations dont want to bear the crushing expense of trying to meet the IOCs demanding standards only to see their facilities plunge into disuse or even ruin within months after the Games end. New York Giants rookie wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. was selected to the 2015 Pro Bowl replacing Detroit Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson. The following information is from an article from NY Daily News: Odell Beckham Jr. quickly became one of the NFLs biggest stars this season. Now hell join those stars at the Pro Bowl. The Giants spectacular rookie receiver was officially added to the Pro Bowl roster on Wednesday when Detroit Lions receiver Calvin Johnson pulled out because of an injury. Beckham, as the first alternate, always knew there was a good chance hed be asked to play in the game. And he said its awesome that its now official. It is something that means a lot to me, and I am definitely going to cherish the moment, Beckham said. The goal is to be either in the Pro Bowl or the Super Bowl. That is every year. That is something you want to be able to build on and put that on your resume. (We) didnt end up making it to the Super Bowl, but I did get the invite to the Pro Bowl, so I am very excited and blessed for the opportunity. Beckham more than earned the right to play in the game, on Jan. 25 at University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Ariz., with his remarkable debut season. He finished with 91 catches for 1,305 yards and 12 touchdowns — all Giants rookie records, even though he played in just 12 games. Beckham will be the first Giants rookie to play in the game since 2002, when tight end Jeremy Shockey was selected. Hes the first rookie receiver in team history to get a Pro Bowl nod and the first receiver to go since Victor Cruz in 2012. Under the new format that began last year, the teams will be divided up by the honorary captains — Hall of Fame receivers Cris Carter and Michael Irvin — in a draft that will be held on Jan. 20-21. Beckham, who tied Irvins NFL record with nine straight games with at least 90 receiving yards, figures to be a high pick for what is always an offensive game. Anytime as an offensive player there is a lot of offense on the field, it is definitely going to be a game that you are into, Beckham said. Im very blessed for the opportunity and I am looking forward to it. Beckham also was recently announced as one of five finalists for the Pepsi Rookie of the Year award, which is voted on by fans and will be announced during Super Bowl week. He also is a heavy favorite to be named the NFLs Offensive Rookie of the Year. His only regret, though, is that he wasnt one of the eight receivers initially voted to the Pro Bowl roster. I wish I would have made the team originally and not as an alternate, he said. But that is OK. That is something to work for next year.
