Having an amazing time! Went off-roading up the base of Kilimanjaro to the rural village schools to pay school fees for the orphans and distribute their uniforms and school equipment with CACHA (Canada-Africa Community Health Alliance) SO cool! Today we have been to a cute little factory where disabled people make a huge range of things like recycled glassware, bead jewellery, clothes and household stuff! Saw loads of stunning Tanzanite jewellery too which is 1000 times rarer than diamond! So inspiring to see the community and national projects here helping less fortunate people to earn a living and stay healthy. Would love to sponsor an orphans education. They pay like $60 USD per year at primary school and about $120 USD per year for secondary school, which is nothing at all. Went for an awesome meal with the house last night for our house managers birthday...the margarita pitcher was ridiculously strong and lets just say I paid the price for that one :/ ....not before we did an impressive amount of booty shaking mind you, so totally worth it! Vaccinated a pregnant lady and some gorgeous little African babies....definitely hatching a plan to steal one somehow. The nurses continue to challenge us with daily Swahili lessons. The Ministry of Health here have all the right guidelines and programmes implemented to help optimise the health of the population, but its clear to see first-hand how much the lack of education and resources hugely limit the ability of the healthcare departments to provide quality healthcare to all. Were very lucky to have the NHS!! Tomorrow we are off to hike up Mount Meru a little way to see the waterfalls. Some spectacular lightning displays recently....welcome to the long rains!
