Having arrived back in the U.S. from the heart of mother - TopicsExpress

Having arrived back in the U.S. from the heart of mother nature’s destruction in the Philippines just in time for Thanksgiving, I am certainly reminded of the things we all have to be grateful for… yes a roof over our head, clothes on our back, fresh clean drinking water, abundant food, and advanced modern health care are wonderful beautiful things that we are ever so blessed to have. But in the last 2 weeks, I’ve had the privilege of helping those in need without any of those things whom still seem to smile, laugh and shine with a genuine spirit of gratitude despite what mother nature has so unkindly bestowed upon them. Despite their grief and despite their loss, their gratitude runs deeper than things we can measure by materialism, comfort, or abundance. In their world of chaos, they find comfort and gratitude in community, compassion, family, faith, hope and love. For that I find my own sense of gratitude that in a world that often times seems so broken there are still those that hope, that love, that are resilient and serve as reminders that during these times the world isn’t such a bad place after all… that we can transcend differences in nationality, faiths, borders, and geography because we are indeed still each other’s brothers and sisters. For that I’m both thankful and hopeful. Additionally, as an update I’m grateful to say that little Edgar survived his emergency craniotomy and brain abscess removal. He is vitally stable and responsive to pain, still has a way to go to pull through this, but grateful that he is receiving the lifesaving care he needs. Furthermore, some of my friends on the ground are going into the island neighborhood where the parent’s 5 other children remain temporarily orphaned to check on their status and assess the damage to Edgar’s home. God is good.
