Having experienced several sermons and teachings lately, I wanted - TopicsExpress

Having experienced several sermons and teachings lately, I wanted to share from a book I am reading, On Difficulties in the Church Fathers by Maximos the Confessor. Using Cyril of Alexandria as his base text, he engages in logic and mysticism that seem stunning in comparison to the way modern people think. He says, And in a manner beyond man, He truly became man, since He maintained the modes of existence (which are above nature), along with the principles of being (which are according to nature), united and unimpaired. The conjunction of these was beyond what is possible, but He for whom nothing is impossible (All Things Are Possible With God!-JMT note) became their true union, and was the hypostasis in neither of them exclusively, in no way acting through one of the natures in separation from the other, but in all that He did He confirmed the presence of the one to the other, since He is truly both. This is only one paragraph of an entire book filled with such thought and mysterious awe and wonder! I dont think there are too many modern theologians or mystics who are capable of such complete beauty in either logic or mystery. It strikes me that we have not only developed, but degenerated as well! :-) amazon/On-Difficulties-Church-Fathers-Dumbarton/dp/0674726669/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1407094247&sr=8-1&keywords=maximos+the+confessor
