Having just returned from Israel, I was struck by the military presence and all of the structural barriers throughout the country. It saddened me to think that people had to live their lives that way because of all the potential violence and hatred. Yet upon my return to the United States, I was greeted by the news that two New York police officers had been executed simply because they were New York City police officers. We must do everything within our power to ensure that we do not become an armed camp full of hatred and violence like other places in the world. There is so much potential for good in this country if we do not allow ourselves to be manipulated by the agents of hatred who take advantage of any societal wrongs to further their nefarious agendas.
