Having lived in major cities all my life, in 1991 I moved to Manistee, MI. While there are many advantages to larger cities, the pace and sense of neighborhood in my little town is astounding. Last Saturday I encountered a rather severe electrical problem at home. I know about as much about lectricity as I know about brain surgery, so I called my next door neighbor, thinking he might have a better handle on it. While he couldnt solve the problem, he knew of someone who could...a professional. Since I was going out of town, I couldnt get the problem solved until later this week. So, the neighbor acted as contractor, consulted with his friend the professional, and as of 5pm today the problem was solved. The cost? I wont mention it here, but its much like the old days when a doctor would make a housecall and charge the patient a dozen eggs or a gallon of milk. My thanks to Aimee Bergers-Kieszkowski, her husband Ryan, and to other neighbors Cheryle Lebert Morin and her husband Tom who have acted similarly in the past. I love my neighbors.
