Having my mother slowly bop her head to a pre-production recording of one of the tracks on the next album, with a massive smile on her face -- Awesome. Having her burst out into tears and give me a hug as soon as the song ends, with the words Its REALLY good! Its AMAZING! And I dont know if its possible to make it any better than it already is! -- Priceless. My mother has one of the most refined tastes in music and lyrics, in our family. If Ive ended up any good at singing, then one of the reasons continues to be trying to impress her, from as far back as I can remember. And her feedback is always refreshingly honest. Shes not the type to sugarcoat it just because Im her son - if she hates something Im working on, she gives it to me straight. So, last night when my mother put her hand on her heart and said through tears and a massive smile It hits me right here!, I know two things: (1) Ive done something right, and (2) Yall are in for a treat when this album comes out, inshaAllah. And all gratitude is to God for His continued grace, guidance and inspiration. #AlhamduliLlah.
