Having slept on it, having taken a quick look at my FB feed this morning, I unfriended some folks I knew from my stint at Fox. Ive thought about doing so for a long time now and boy, that felt good: theyre genuinely bad people. Well, bad and genuinely stupid. Beyond that, Ive lived through devastating and disappointing election nights before and Im sure I will again. But I am sticking with something I wrote last night: The American people get the government they deserve. They want a heavily GOP Congress, one bought and paid for by the Kochs? Let them get what they deserve. But why do the rest of us deserve that?, a sage colleague asked me. Well, the answer is, of course, We dont. But theres another question we must ask, too: Why didnt the rest of us work hard enough to prevent it? Which brings me to my final thought: why are Democrats forever saddled with candidates and office-holders too mushy to fight like the bare-knuckled gutter-dwelling street-brawlers that Republicans are? Dont tell me that some do: few do. Allison Grimes refusal to say, for example, who she voted for in 2012? Just come on, man. Just..e on.
