Hawaiʻi County Civil Defense officials say there is very little activity at the leading edge of the #PunaLavaFlow, which has not advanced in the last two days. Officials say the flow front remains 0.5 miles, or 880 yards, upslope of the Highway 130 and Pāhoa Village Road intersection. They say a breakout along the south margin of the flow about 150 yards behind the flow front advanced 20 yards between Wednesday and Thursday -- however, it did not move in the last 24 hours. Hawaiʻi County Civil Defense Director Darryl Oliveira says surface breakouts and activity along both margins continues upslope of the flow front, however current activity does not pose an immediate threat to area communities. USGS geologists with the Hawaiian Volcano Observatory say the flow has traveled downslope around 165 yards since Monday, December 22 -- when it stopped moving for about four days. HVO scientists who flew over the area Tuesday afternoon say the leading edge of the June 27th lava flow was hot, but stalled 580 yards upslope of the Pāhoa Marketplace. Officials report smoke conditions were light Friday with a light north west wind blowing smoke in a south/southeast direction over the Pāhoa and lower Puna areas. Officials said smoke and vog conditions may increase in some areas and residents who may be sensitive or have respiratory problems are advised to take precautions and to remain indoors.
