Hawks fall 3-2 to the Blues in a shootout, snapping their 3 game winning streak. Brandon Pirri began the scoring tonight, notching his first career NHL goal with a wicked wrister off a Marian Hossa assist. St. Louis responded quickly however, with David Backes scoring on a re-direct 5 seconds into a Power Play on a questionable slashing call that went against Jonathan Toews. The remainder of the 1st period went by fairly uneventful, and they went to the locker room tied at 1. A hard hit on Patrick Kane(fortunately Kaner’s okay!) by Barrett Jackman appeared to be the only highlight of the 2nd period, but then the Hjammer struck. Niklas Hjalmarsson forced a turnover deep in the Hawks zone and passed it up to Marian Hossa for 2-on-0 with Patrick Sharp, Hoss did the work himself slapping one past Jaroslav Halak and giving the Hawks the 2-1 lead with less than 3 minutes left. However, the Blues struck late again, after Duncan Keith batted a shot in past the Crow giving Alexander Steen the easiest goal of his life. So, after 2, the game was knotted at 2. The 3rd period saw no scoring, but a major scrap sparked by Roman Polak with a dirty boarding play on Marcus Kruger. That prompted Brandon Bollig to drop the gloves with Polak in a heavyweight bout. It should also be noted that while Corey Crawford was tremendous all night, he saved his best for the 3rd and OT again for the second straight game. He had 26 saves tonight, and all but one of the Blues shootout tries, but that was all that was needed as the Hawks couldn’t find the back of the net.
