Hawkwind Face More Tour Disruption Comments 0 Martin Kielty at 10:07am January 20 2014 hawkwind Hawkwind have run into more problems with their return to North America after a Canadian show was cancelled amid rumours Dave Brock hadn’t been granted a work visa. The space-rock giants had already been forced to postpone their long-awaited trip after Prog Award winner Brock was diagnosed with stress as a result of ex-member Nik Turner’s attempt to register the band name on the other side of the ocean. Now their visit to Toronto on March 9 has been called off after promoter Inertia Entertainment refused to hand over some of the ticket money to fund the journey. Hawkwind say in a statement: “We have exhausted every avenue of negotiation to try and persuade Inertia Entertainment, who are holding ticket money, to release some payment so that the show can go ahead. “We have already spent money arranging to play the Toronto show, dealing with the US and Canadian visa and tax systems. This money has now been lost. “We have never come across a situation such as this in all the 45 years we have been touring. “However, Noel Peters from Inertia Entertainment admits to having been contacted with unfounded rumours that Hawkwind are not coming. Not surprisingly this has shaken his confidence and may go a little way to explaining the situation. “The stories put about that Dave has not been granted a visa have been very damaging, but short of publishing online a copy of Dave’s visa – which we believe is illegal – it has been difficult to stem this speculation. Anyone who wishes to inspect Dave’s visa may do so at either Minehead or Seaton and put paid to this damaging gossip.” Hawkwind say they’re “heartbroken” over the latest drama but they’re hopeful the band’s planned visit to Montreal will go ahead. They say: “We send huge apologies to our Canadian fans and a massive thanks to all the folk who have had faith in us and stood by us.” Brock and co appear at the Giants Of Rock festival at Butlins in Minehead on the weekend on February 7-9, and headline a charity show in London on February 22 during which they’ll perform classic album Space Ritual in full.
