Hay Guys, did you get the Finance Ministers supplementary budget speech? Its nothing but favor buying this time round. The first in the history of our country, a huge amount of money running into billions of Leone is allotted in the budget to pay monthly salaries to our Paramount Chiefs. Is it the right thing to do in this time of need where we have considerable number of our youths out there without a source of their livelihood? All evidences proved our Paramount chiefs continue to gainfully and effectively make do with revenues collected from local taxes. It has been like this for decades gone, so why this only now? We must keep our eyes on this. Election year is fast approaching, and like the chief electoral commissioner who was given a massive salary increment, this could also be a ploy to politically influence our paramount chiefs to do the wrong things. We have heard cases of intimidation by paramount chiefs and their chiefs often when it comes to politics. I have this feeling that civil society organizations should weigh in on this and try to take a position. Our local authorities should also not be happy for this but consider it as a prelude for something they are not expecting.
