Haze update. Haze still has a significant limp from her last - TopicsExpress

Haze update. Haze still has a significant limp from her last tangle with Daisy. Kelly assessed it as a possible meniscus ear or dome sort of -itis (I dont remember) due to impact with the ground during the fight. Daisy is healing although her hole int he chest was untreated for a week due to her hair covering it and it going unnoticed. The hole is about 2 inches long by 1 inch wide and has too much scar tissue for me to stitch it with out making the hole 2 times its current size. We have her on antibiotics and treat the wound with antibiotic gel and bandaging. But you know how bandaging works on a dog. I do want to say to Tammy Brentlinger - our neighbors are not stupid. They certainly keep Daisy on her side of the fence and the last fight occurred when the fence was in the process of being put up and the last ten feet (plus a gate) was left to be installed. Daisy must have been out of her mind to run over onto or property to see our friend Delia with Haze there. No ones fault. Daisy as all the other dogs had free range access to this property with and without residents for over 5 years. To them this is just another place to scrounge for food. The major fear of Haze has always been her and Roxie. Apparently the pack has finally defined itself post last fight with Daisy. Haze and Roxie lie together now, lick each other and eat out of the same food dish at the same time (even though they still have their own they prefer). While dogs are animals and behave as such they are getting along and this is wonderful news. haze even knows what play is now. She watched Roxie Gerl and Bella Gerl play fight with growling and does not attack either one of them she watches and sometimes tries to participate. HUGE improvement. Haze is a big snuggler with Kelly and I. She parks her chunky butt on the couch in between us and Kelly uses her as a pillow. LOL - Roxie would never allow that. Bella is to hyper to allow it. She is a great alert dog too. She hears stuff and immediately gets up and checks it out. Barking and growling until she identifies it as a friend. We shared ALL the horror and success stories and frustrations during these first three months so that everyone is informed of her status. Haze has a lot of fans and loving people that care about her. She carries the spirit of Leslie with her. We see her sometimes just laying on the floor or outside looking so sad and wonder if she is thinking about Leslie. We try to keep her busy so she can integrate with our family and she is doing a wonderful job of doing that. She loves the male neighbor dogs and tries to play or flirt with them - I am not sure which LOL. Female dogs she still has a problem with and with 2000 feet of fence and gates installed there should be no problems with other female dogs so long as we monitor Haze when they visit. She gets kenneled if anyone comes over with a female dog. We love her! This story is one of success and love and should be shared with fosters and adopters. Its always tough trying to rehab a new dog. I have done it my whole life with 12 successes. Three of which were former fighters red lined. It takes time and Haze will stumble again. But she is loved here and around the states for who she is and what she means to many peeps as well as because she is a pit that would be put down if taken to any ACF.
