Hazing and making guys go through their right of passage in and of itself ok. Making guys carry bags and equipment. Making guys dress up and do talent shows. Even making rookies pay for meals isnt the worst thing in the world. BUT, how in the hell is bullying, berating, intimidating and mentally/emotionally abusing someone building commodity and toughening someone up?! Seriously! Beating a guy up is making him stronger? What kind of effed up thinking is that? You may harden him? But, youre not making him tougher. This extreme hazing bullshit is inane and sophomoric. My first job was at Pratts. When I started most of the sackers who were there had been there for awhile. I was the new kid. The vets, so to speak, wanted to see if I had the chops to be part of the crew. However, I wasnt berated or made to pay for stuff or was verbally attacked. I did, though, have to do the crappy jobs like clean the bathroom and take out the huge orders and polish the rails. And I did it. I hated it but I did it. Once, they saw I would work hard those crappy jobs were split. I just dont see how threatening a guys family, to rape his sister and beating him is going to make him play harder
