Hazrat Abu Bakr Siddique, the first caliph of Islam said: ‘Since I accepted Islam, I never ate and drank to full stomach, in order to enjoy the worship of my Allah. Too much eating reduces the concentration in ibadat. One feels heavy, groggy and lazy. He becomes like a fallen animal.’ (Minhaj-ud-deen). The Holy Prophet said: ‘Do not kill your hearts by eating and drinking too much. It is like the plantation that is killed by over-watering.’ Also, gluttony reduces one’s wisdom and takes him away from the worship of Allah. sm
