He Who Kills: The Zuni Fetish Doll Part 2 - Linked below is a video of the He Who Kills segment of Trilogy of Terror 2, the 1996 made-for-cable telefilm sequel to the first, again directed by Dan Curtis (again, video of the whole anthology is also on YouTube, but only the Zuni Fetish Doll concerns us here). Below is my discussion of He Who Kills, which is a spoiler alert! Watch both film segments first, if you dont want to get spoiled (each are only about 30 minutes long). S P O I L E R S I think we can safely place these incidents around the time Mathesons original short story was published, circa 1969. The sequel occurred just several hours after the first. As is clearly evident, He Who Kills can cause his spirit to jump into the body of a human being in his close vicinity whenever the doll is facing destruction. He can then possess this human and force them to kill for him until the doll regenerates sufficiently so its once again intact; his spirit then appears to spring back into the doll, leaving the human he possessed dead (presumably because when his spirit took possession, it permanently forced the bodys native spirit out of it, where it went on to the afterlife). As we can see, the doll appears able to regenerate itself from any type of damage that doesnt totally incinerate or dissolve it. Since it wasnt revealed if every trace of the dolls form was dissolved in the acid Dr. Simpson threw it in near the climax of the second film, its possible that his spirit was forced to stay in her body, at least temporarily. Hence, anyone fighting that doll really needs to find a way to shield their body from a spirit possession. It also stands to reason that upon possession, the spirit will have full access to the hosts memories, which is how he displays an understanding and knowledge of modern technology, phone numbers, and people, etc., who were known to the host from their previous life, and remain intact in the synapses of their purloined gray matter. The Zunis obviously had access to powerful mystical forces that enabled them not only to tether the spirit of one of a few select members of their hunters to a fetishistic doll, but also to enable whatever type of wood it was made out of take on fast regenerative properties. Since wood is an organic substance, and many types of wood are well suited to holding enchantments, it shouldnt be too surprising that it can be endowed with regenerative properties via powerful forms of mystical forces, much as human flesh can. Other types of wood are known for holding spirits quite well. The type of wood is unknown, but likely native to Africa, where the Zunis lived. It is unknown what type of force is necessary to totally and permanently expel the spirit of these Earth-bound Zuni hunter spirits from the mortal plane, but certain mystics of sufficient knowledge should be able to uncover a means of doing so. Any thoughts on this, people? All are more than welcome! https://youtube/watch?v=lN2X_05lZCQ
