He also says that if the Kurichi Tank fills up, it will meet the water requirements of the residents of the aforementioned areas for the next two years, at least. But sources say there is not much water flow into the Big Tank, Singanallur Tank and the Vellalore Tank. While diverting water to the Kurichi Tank, the officials should also ensure that the other tanks get filled up.The improvement in water level will see residents of Kurichi, Kuniamuthur, Kovaipudur, Madukkarai, Walayar, Echanari and also Kinathukadavu access groundwater much closer, says Umesh Marudachalam, a Kurichi resident and nature enthusiast. # Water flows through River Noyyal to fill tanks in and around city Kurichi Tank is filling up fast after almost a years gap. Following copious rain in the past few days, the parched bed of River Noyyal has seen some water flow. This flow steadily increased in the past couple of days resulting in tanks in the Noyyal basin also getting water. According to sources, the good inflow into River Noyyal has made the Public Works Department to divert water through the Chitiraichavadi Anaicut, Coimbatore Anaicut and Kurichi Anaicut to a number of tanks. From the Chitiraichavadi Anaicut, the Noyyal water has been flowing through the eponymous canal to fill the Kolarampathy, Narasampathy, Krishnampathy, Selvampathy and a few other tanks on the north of the River. From the Coimbatore Anaicut, the water has been flowing to the canal of the same name into the Big Tank and from the Kurichi Anaicut near the Puttuvikki crossing, water has been flowing into the Kurichi Tank. The increase in water level in the Kurichi Tank has also brought cheer to the people of the area. Water flowing into the Tank is to be seen in the backdrop of the tank remaining dry for over a year, says K. Mylswami of Siruthuli, adding that this is the first reason for the joy. The second is that as the water level in the over-300-acre Tank increases, the groundwater level in localities within 25 km radius will improve. The improvement in water level will see residents of Kurichi, Kuniamuthur, Kovaipudur, Madukkarai, Walayar, Echanari and also Kinathukadavu access groundwater much closer, says Umesh Marudachalam, a Kurichi resident and nature enthusiast. Another positive impact of the monsoon is that water in the Siruvani Reservoir continued to overflow for the third consecutive day on Sunday. According to sources in the Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board, the water level at the Reservoir was 50.45 feet, a foot more than the full reservoir level. The Board supplied more than 100 million litres a day to the city. thehindu/news/cities/Coimbatore/water-flows-through-river-noyyal-to-fill-tanks-in-and-around-city/article6279275.ece
