He cried for you. He cried for me. He cried for all of us, his ummah. However, these tears were not tears of distress, but they were tears of compassion. He didn’t consider us companions nor friends, but instead, he considered us to be his brothers and sisters. He spent the nights praying for our welfare. He would pray with such sincerity that tears would stream down his noble face. He went through so much for us as he was attacked by his own tribe and was pelted with stones until blood soaked his sandals just for speaking the truth. He buried all of his children with his own hands except for one, and when this happened, his neighbors ridiculed his misfortune. And even during his final physical breaths, he was not preoccupied with his own state of affairs. Rather, he was too worried about ours. “My Ummah, My Ummah” he called during his last breaths. Rasulullah (صلي الله عليه واله و سلم) sacrificed so much for us and showed so much compassion towards us even though we live centuries apart. Truly, as Allah (سبحانه و تعالي) says in the Qur’an, he is a Mercy, a Compassion to everything in existence. But what does that mean? Rahmah is not only a strong, purifying mercy. It is not only kindness and light. But Rahmah is that which completes oneself or makes oneself whole. If something is a mercy to you, you exist because of that thing. In the same way, the serenity of nature pales in comparison to his beauty. In the same way, the radiance of the sun is nothing compared to his warmth. In the same way, the light of the moon is less pure than light of his heart. In the same way, our faith in Allah (سبحانه و تعالي) blossoms with the love of Rasulullah (صلي الله عليه واله و سلم). Our Beloved Prophet (صلي الله عليه واله و سلم) taught us character, manners, polite speech, respect, honesty, justice, courage, patience, Qur’an, and Islam. SubhanAllah, what a debt we owe to him? He has given us so much, yet do we appreciate the sacrifices he made for us? He used to spend nights praying for us, but do we spend nights remembering him and what he taught? Let this month and all the months be a reminder to strengthen our connection to our Mercy (صلي الله عليه واله و سلم).
