He didnt want to die but he hadnt yet learned how to live. You see, wanting to live and not wanting to die, unfortunately, are far too rarely necessarily mutually inclusive options. He had never picked up that key insight and the jury was out on whether he ever would. Whats more, the jury was seated in his head and they could debate one another forever. They had, fought, for most of his life and it was well within the realm of possibility that they would continue until his last breath.
