He does not give the spirit by measure.—John 3:34. Moses was entrusted with enormous responsibility in the nation of Israel. God’s spirit empowered him to prophesy, judge, write, lead, and perform miracles. (Isa. 63:11-14 And one*began to remember the days of long ago, Moses his servant:* “Where is the One that brought them up out of the sea+with the shepherds* of his flock?+ Where is the One that put within him His own holy spirit?+12 The One making His beautiful arm+ go at the right hand of Moses; the One splitting the waters from before them+ in order to make an indefinitely lasting name for his own self;+ 13 the One making them walk through the surging waters* so that, like a horse in the wilderness, they did not stumble?+14 Just as when a beast itself goes down into the valley plain, the very spirit of Jehovah proceeded to make them rest.”+Thus you led your people in order to make a beautiful name for your own self.) Yet, at one point, Moses lamented that the load was simply too heavy. (Num. 11:14, 15 I am not able, I by myself, to carry all this people, because they are too heavy for me.+ 15 So if this is the way you are doing to me, please kill me off* altogether,+ if I have found favor in your eyes, and let me not look upon my calamity.”) So Jehovah took “away some of the spirit” that was upon Moses and put it on 70 others to help carry the workload. (Num. 11:16, 17 In turn Jehovah said to Moses: “Gather for me seventy men of the older men of Israel,+ whom you do know that they are older men of the people and officers of theirs,+and you must take them to the tent of meeting, and they must station themselves there with you. 17 And I shall have to come down+ and speak with you there;+ and I shall have to take away some of the spirit+ that is upon you and place it upon them, and they will have to help you in carrying the load of the people that you may not carry it, just you alone.) However, Moses still had all the spirit that he needed. Today, Jehovah supplies as much of his spirit as we need, according to our circumstances. Are you enduring trials? Are legitimate demands on your time increasing? Are you striving to provide for the spiritual and physical needs of your family while coping with rising expenses or anxieties over health? Are you carrying weighty responsibilities in the congregation? Be assured that by means of his spirit, God can give you the strength you need to cope with any situation.—Rom. 15:13 May the God who gives hope fill YOU with all joy and peace by YOUR believing, that YOU may abound in hope with power of holy spirit.
