He fought for equal rights! Now we need to continue where he left off. Our rights are not equal to government agencies, judicial system department, police department, or anyone who has the money to buy the verdict their wanting. No matter how small of an issue, we should always fight for our rights and the cause. By overlooking even a little thing or a technicality makes it easier to stomp on our constitutional rights later on in the future. Such as no knock warrants! We see cops ram down doors on the TV show COPS and think to ourselves, it must be legal cause their doing it on a popular show. They wouldnt do something illegal on the show for everyone to see right? WRONG!!! We have been Hollywoodized to believe multiple things that we see on TV to be legal. When a warrant is served, cops are suppose to knock on your door and wait for someone to answer. Cops have to inform you of what their business is for being on your property. That they are there to serve a warrant, what the warrant is for, and then they must show you the warrant as well. Lets say the warrant is a search warrant: You have the right to disagree with the warrant and go before a judge to have the warrant thrown out. (Side Note: You do have this right however the cops will probably call up a judge and wake him up and what kind of mood do you think he may be in while hearing the case. (something to think about) Then they will lock your house down so no one can go in or out, drive you down to the court house in their car, and have a judge hear the case right then or they will ignore your rights and come in anyway. So this probably isnt the best way to handle the situation without it escalating.) If the judge upholds the warrant then they have to come back to your house and serve the warrant to you and then they can search. This is how warrants are suppose to be served if they are doing their job by the book. In reality it doesnt playout that smooth. People tend to let the little technicalities slide cause its a hassle and they dont want to have to be in court any longer than they have to. They dont want to miss work or cant afford to miss any work. EACH and EVERY TIME we let little things slide, it makes it easier for them to justify why its okay for them to step on this right or that right. Like child support being allowed to suspend a persons drivers license for not paying child support. How do they expect to get paid now if the person cant drive to work to make money to pay their child support? If they get a ticket on driving on a suspended license they will have a fine to pay which could keep them from paying any child support till their ticket is paid off. This law causes so many other hardships on a person. Its just to punish them even further. Why do we allow them to get away with this? Do you enjoy your freedom and constitutional rights or what is left of them? If you do, then we need to pick up where Martin Luther King left off and continue the fight for the cause! youtu.be/MSPLel4OrFo
