Me, a colleague and our Manager decided to have Darshan of Periyava, Who was camping at Teynambakkam. We had got done a garland made of 108 coins for Thiruvanaika Akhilandeshwari and wanted to show it to Him and have it blessed. There was no construction at Teynambakkam those days. Just the temple was there and nothing else. Periyava was taking rest outside on a cot made of ropes, கயத்துக்கட்டில். We submitted the garland to Him. He immediately placed the garland made of coins on His Head. Later He enquired about our wellbeing with questions like what are you doing, what did you study, how much money are you making etc. He remarked, It is good that you have used whatever Ambal had given you for Ambals sake itself! He was referring to the garland made of 108 coins! Another incident at Teynambakkam. Swamigal used to draw water from the well there, using brass vessel. When I went for His darshan He told me: As I am using brass vessel, it is getting stolen. Can you do me a favour, get me a vessel made of mud ie an earthen vessel. No one will steal it! I learnt two lessons from these two incidents: 1) Do not think that you are earning the money; it is Ambal who is providing for you! 2) Let us not tempt people to commit sins; if brass vessel was not used, the person would not have stolen it.
