It was when I had started assisting my father as an assistant those days.. ..recollects the Legendary Composer Rahul Dev Burman aka Pancham as he recalls the memories of his meeting with the Legendary Singer Kishore Kumar...One day as I arrived to the studio..I saw one man sitting on a wall shaking his legs and shouting in a voice that sounded like a cocks doodle. As he saw me coming near...he called out to me and said...I was shaking my legs...and due to that my shoes have fallen down..See they have tilted upside down...Please make them straight by pushing them...You need not touch them...When I will come down...I will wear them!...I did so and went away...Again another day...Sitting on a wall of the same studio...I saw that same man...wearing a nepali cap..and holding a black stick in his hands.. ..He was imitating just everyone who passed by..When we went inside the studio..the man jumped off the wall...and came inside the recording room. Jo jo gaana gatey thay...Unka satyanash karte huye woh khud bhi gaana gaane lage!...When I asked him...Why he was doing it?...He replied to me innocently...I am an orphan....Nobody looks after me..Please give me one chance!...Amused at the recollection...Pancham gave a hearty laugh..The man on the wall was..Kishore Kumar!...Who..according to Pancham..is the best male singer we have...He is so flexible...He can sing a classical song better than any of the others...I know because Ive worked with all of them. He can sing a funny song or a sad song with equal ease..nobody can beat him in versatility...He has never learnt any music..but his ability to grasp is the secret of his success...He observes the music director and mimics the song...the sound...the tone..to the utmost perfection...Sometimes even we are flabbergasted by some of the spaces which he fills up with accuracy.. Yeh sochne wali baat hai..Woh insaan sirf ek singer nahi hai..He is a true musician in all senses!..Indeed!..as the Legendary Composer sums it up.. He was a true musician in all senses..No wonder this charismatic team of Kishore - Pancham has ruled over the minds of generations since the day they paired up...A combination created made in heaven itself...One cannot ask for more heavenly bliss when he actually is into the experience of one already!..This magical combo is bound to cast a spell on the audience and mesmerize them completely with their charm..Truly the most versatile and charismatic performers...and musicians born ever...!!!
