He said he supports the local clothing brand Black Owned, but - TopicsExpress

He said he supports the local clothing brand Black Owned, but would rather wear Brooks Brothers and would never date a woman who wears Black Owned. He said that this is because the brands existence promotes a petty way of thinking and encourages white people and black people to reinforce stereotypes and to continue to fight one another for a right of supremacist expression. Also, he said that a clothing brand named White Owned wouldnt be successful because it would be condemned as a medium of racism, an expression of supremacy, so in turn the impression of the clothing brand Black Owned and its name are both unnecessary. He then insinuated that White People have never taken part in the oppression of Black people and requested that we do our research regarding the topic. MY RESPONSE: Just my random 2 cents, but I like the conversation. In contrast, I do also believe that a brand named White Owned would receive some sort of backlash and I do also believe that the brand name Black Owned is a bit limiting or rather specific, but some of the points being made about the topic seem a little less than well thought out. No disrespect to anyone, Im just giving another perspective to consider. Granted, the style of the clothing isnt so creative or different that its appeal is undeniable across all demographics, but the term Black Owned represents a movement or if nothing else a sense of connection to a movement which speaks to the ethic it took to even make the brand a relevant topic to discuss, let alone criticize. Lets be real... regardless of your preference or support, Black Owned isnt talking about us, it is us who are talking about Black Owned. Beyond that, supporting the brand Black Owned is in its own way supporting the idea of Black Ownership, Black Entrepreneurship, Black Enterprise - there is no reason for a Causian person to feel compelled to offer a brand highlighting the opposite or White Ownership, White Enterprise, etc for the same reason there is no reason for there to be an Act of Affirmative Action for Caucasians passed through Congress. White Enterprise or Enterprise that favors the Caucasian man and woman is no secret, it goes without saying because its the infrastructure this country is based in, the condition of a society we facilitate. No matter your nationality, if youre a citizen of America, you LIVE, eat, sleep and die white ownership. The language were using... need I say more? Black Owned, it resonates and it doesnt isolate, it just encourages the support of a not so alluring yet necessary concept of reality. White Owned would be redundant and the redundancy itself is what would be offensive. If you dont want to wear their clothes because its not your style, thats okay I guess. Its your choice, but suggesting the brand is a racist concept is only self-affronting and projecting your prejudices isnt an expression of opinion, its an admission of ignorance. What do you all think? #iAintJESUS
