He so Baaaad! In those days a decree went out from Caesar - TopicsExpress

He so Baaaad! In those days a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that the whole empire should be registered.... (Luke 2:1 HCSB) With these words, the writer Luke, personal physician to and friend of Paul, in his treatise to Theophilus (most likely Pauls lawyer presenting his case before Nero) as a sworn affidavit to prepare for the case made against Paul, begins the story of the birth of Christ, God Incarnate, He Who came down to us and became flesh like us (except for a sin nature) to save us from His own wrath most justly (fairly) due me! Yes, with a stroke of the quill and a signet ring stamp in the clay, the leader of the western world (Caesar) proclaimed a tax, a registration for taxation. Sign up, or else! Sound familiar? Yes, the political leader, who fancied himself a savior (thats what Augustus means, Divine Savior) set the stage for he Revelation of Jesus, the real August One, to he world He created and now came to save. Caesar thought he was exercising his power, and he was! But you see, his power, his pen, his executive authority (if you will), only played into the real big picture, the climax of His Story (did you know that is the purpose for the word history - His Story?). You see, we think we are in charge! I think its my will that counts! I labor under the illusion that its all about me! But in this one little verse, by these few words of introduction, God says with tender mercy, No, my child, its about Me and My love for you and what I did for all of mankind! Man decrees and it is so, for a while. God decrees, and it is so! I decide, until I change my mind. God decides, and He never changes! I speak, and no sooner than the words are out of my mouth, Im rethinking what I just said. God speaks, and His Word remains, abides (takes up residence) forever! So, take heart my friend! Lift up your eyes to the hill from whence comes your help! God is not dead; Hes not even asleep! These upstart, wise political types that decide to experiment with His creation; well, they too will see their end and be brought to bow before the great equalizer, death (if not before), as will we all. God is all-knowing, not ever learning! I am on His ship; He is not merely in my life! He reigns! And the more I get used to that here, and now, the more I will enjoy Him throughout eternity, then! No, Im not so Baaaad! He de Man! Think about that!
