He spiked a fever again, so they had to draw blood again for - TopicsExpress

He spiked a fever again, so they had to draw blood again for cultures, which adds at least another day to his stay, looking at 3-5 as of right now. His white count is still at 0. He will not be considered for release until that number is above 500. They believe he might be developing mucositis. Mucositis is the painful inflammation and ulceration of the mucous membranes lining the digestive tract, usually as an adverse effect of chemo. The mucosal lining of the mouth and gastrointestinal tract becomes thin, may slough off and then becomes red, inflamed and ulcerated. Ulcers may range from 0.5 cm to greater than 4 cm. Mucositis can be severely painful. The degree of pain is usually related to the extent of the tissue damage. Due to pain, the patient may experience trouble speaking, eating, or even opening the mouth. Mucositis affects almost all patients undergoing high-dose chemotherapy. Nothing to cure it, just meds to manage the pain. Hes already showing signs - difficulty swallowing, not eating or drinking, sores on his bottom. Due to the difficulty in swallowing he has only had half a bowl of Apple Jacks, some Apple sauce, 2 chik-fil-a chicken nuggets and 1 waffle fry all day. A huge thank you to Myra Robinson whose 4 year old daughter, Emily, is up here for the exact same reason Jaeton is, and she still dropped us off cereal, milk and chik-fil-a!! Such a blessing since hospital food is disgusting and I dont have a vehicle here since we were flown in. Emily and Jaeton had the exact same chemo on this last round. She is fighting neuroblastoma. She finished her chemo one day earlier than he did and ended up in the hospital one day earlier than he did. Such horrible things our kids must endure just to be cancer free.
