He was at home on a Sunday afternoon, but only because of his broken leg. Otherwise, she was used to spending all her time alone. Just to stir up a conversation, he chose the most convenient topic that came to his mind. “What do you do after I go to the office?” “Me? Oh, I have fun. As soon as you leave, I have breakfast, and then I sleep for some time before going out to my favourite places in the city.” “That’s it? You do all this while I work all day in the office?” “Precisely! I do all this because you work all day in your office?” “I didn’t get you. How is any of this related to my work?” “Well, lets look at it like this. If you don’t work all day, leave early in the morning only to come late in the night, then I wouldn’t have to eat breakfast from your plate, only to have a feeling that I am eating with you. If you don’t work all day in office and spend some time with me, then I wouldn’t have to sleep hugging your pillow under your quilt, only to have a feeling that I am sleeping by your side. If you don’t work all day and even on the weekends, then I would not have to go out alone to the places where we used to go together, just to feel that we are still very much together, like the old times.” He didn’t expect this straight an answer. Clearing his throat, he sat up uncomfortably, and said in a convincing tone. “You know I love you, and I am doing all this for our future, right?” “I do know that, and I am not complaining, but what’s the point of spending the present away just so we could enjoy in the future?” “You are right! We will plan a vacation soon. Till then, dinner dates on all weekends and no late-night works. All my free time is yours. Now can I have a cup of tea, please?” She pulled the tray near to the bed, and said in a mischievous tone. “Actually, make mine with less sugar. I would love to shed some weight for the upcoming vacations.” He looked at her in shock before making the tea. It was too less a penalty for what he had unintentionally made her go through. Sitting together on the porch, they held hands while choosing the vacation spot over his laptop, though in all honesty, the damage was kind of repaired.
