He who fasts and backbites people and practices other similar acts - TopicsExpress

He who fasts and backbites people and practices other similar acts is not considered to be actually fasting, meaning that he loses the sense of fasting and its spirituality, for he does not actually benefit from the significations of this act. Thus, when man is fasting, we want him to prevent himself from having bad ideas, intentions and motives, for the problem of each and every one of us lies in his thoughts, intentions and motives. Our thoughts are what make our stands, and our intentions are what govern our relations; thus, if one wishes to be a fasting pious believer who is open to Allah, then Allah tells him that it is not enough to prevent himself physically from committing evil, a crime or any forbidden act, but he should also make his thoughts, emotions and intentions fast from considering any act of evil. It must be noted that the thought, too, has its own form of fasting by providing life with its safety and strength and providing the people with strength
