"He who has knowledge spares his words, and a man of understanding - TopicsExpress

"He who has knowledge spares his words, and a man of understanding is of calm spirit. Even a fool is counted wise when he holds his peace; when he shuts his lips, he is considered perceptive. (Proverbs 17;27,28) One of the most groundbreaking, far reaching judicial opinions ever handed down by the Supreme Court was the Miranda decision, which detetmined that every criminal suspect has a constitutional right to be advised of the availability of counsel. Under the Miranda ruling police officers are to tell suspects, "You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can be used against you". We should consider exercising that right to remain silent more often in everyday circumstances. Many times it is wise to say nothing at all. Someone has said,"A wise man is one who thinks twice before saying nothing." People who are always putting in their two cents worth often say things that are worth about two cents! Someone else has said."He who thinks by the inches and speaks by the yard should be kicked by the foot." Your words matter to God. Jesus said, For every word idle men speak, they will give account of it in the day of judgement" (Matt. 12:36). Your words impact others. Soloman said, "The hypocrite with his mouth destroys his neighbor" (Proverbs 11;9). Embrace the wisdom of speaking calmly before you speak. Be self-controlled and careful with your words. Depend on the Spirit to know how to use your words, or silence, to bring honor and glory to the Father throughout the day. Dear Father, I know that word are very important to You, because You have chosen to reveal Yourself primarily through the power of the written Word and the spoken word. Today I will use many words with many people. Give me the wisdom to speak at the right time and the right way. I pray in the name of Jesus Christ my Lord. Amen.
