Heading home in the morning. These past 6 weeks in Kenya have been unbelievably amazing. Every single adventure was memorable; from meeting people who have become family to eating ostrich to waking up in the middle of the night to find meg cuddling with a scorpion. Above all that, people here have shown me that my happiness is based on my circumstances. I only had this temporary happiness when things were going great; good grades, healthy, loyal friends, etc. But that happiness would fade away with the slightest obstacle. The people in Marigat have something above this temporary happiness. They have an inner joy that is completely independent of circumstances. It’s when your heart smiles no matter how bad things are around you. It’s when you’re grateful for every little thing you have and trust God with all your heart to provide what you don’t have. It’s when you’re not thinking about the past or worrying about the future, but just enjoying the very moment life has to offer. They’re smiles have brightened up my world so much that I almost accepted a job offer at a fasolia (pea) stand so that I can just stay here with them forever. Saying goodbye is so so hard so I’m just going to say see you soon, Kenya. Its been real.
